A message from Co-ordinator, Miriam Horgan
Welcome to the Chemistry section of the website

Chemistry In-service January – June 2004

The following modes of support are on offer to chemistry teachers for the coming year.

  • An issue of the magazine ‘Physical Sciences’ will be circulated to all schools, one in January and one in May.. I would welcome articles for the magazine, which may be forwarded to me at miriamhorgan@slss.ie.
  • A consultation service by phone, fax or email
  • The Physical Sciences website, www.psi-net.org. This will be regularly updated and contain news of upcoming in-service and events. We invite you to log on and update your email address if you wish to be informed by email of upcoming in-service events.
  • A limited number of school visits, resources permitting.
  • Some regional support meetings.
  • Modular courses.

The modular courses focus on the teaching of the syllabus in the classroom. They will also establish a process of dialogue in which participants reflect on their own practice over time and share the outcomes of these reflections with a group of interested colleagues. The following two modular courses are on offer during first term:

The final day of each course will be arranged in the teacher’s own time. Participants in these courses, who satisfactorily complete a “Link-in Module”, may earn accreditation from the Department of Education and Professional Studies at the University of Limerick towards postgraduate study at Master’s level.

Further details on the modular courses are available by following the above links and in the ‘Support Services For Post Primary Education’ Autumn brochure (pages 11-18) which have been forwarded to your school.
